The Lead Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) is responsible for maintaining high standards of assessment and internal quality assurance across The Retrofit Academy’s training provision. The role ensures assessment practice meets the requirements of awarding organisations and internal quality standards while supporting assessors and trainers to deliver a consistent, high‑quality learning experience.
Responsibilities:
• Implement and maintain internal quality assurance processes across all qualifications and programmes.
• Ensure compliance with awarding organisation requirements and internal quality standards.
• Develop and manage sampling strategies to monitor assessment practice and learner progress.
• Maintain accurate and auditable records relating to assessment, quality assurance, registration and certification.
• Support the organisation in maintaining audit readiness for awarding organisation and external quality assurance visits.
• Conduct regular sampling of learner work, assessment decisions and feedback to ensure consistency and quality.
• Monitor learner progress, achievement and portfolio evidence across programmes.
• Analyse quality assurance data and learner outcomes to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Facilitate standardisation meetings to ensure consistency of assessment practice.
• Contribute to organisational quality improvement plans (QIP) and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support and mentor assessors and trainers to maintain high standards of assessment practice.
• Assist with observations of assessors and trainers where required.
• Act as a key point of contact for awarding organisations and external quality assurers.
• Support the coordination of external quality assurance visits and audits.
Assessment Duties (as required)
• Assess learner work and provide clear, constructive feedback.
• Coach and mentor learners throughout their programme.
• Support learners in developing portfolio evidence.
• Monitor learner progress and conduct progress reviews.
• Maintain accurate learner assessment records.
Knowledge and Experience: (E) Essential, (D) Desirable
• Experience of internal quality assurance, verification or auditing within a training or education environment.
• Experience working with awarding organisations and quality assurance processes.
• Assessor qualification such as D32/D33, A1, CAVA or equivalent.
• Internal Quality Assurance qualification such as V1, D34 or IQA.
• Strong organisational and record‑keeping skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Confident IT user including Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of energy assessment, retrofit or built environment training (desirable).
• Teaching qualification such as AET, PTLLS or PGCE (desirable).
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
