Duration and content ​

Self-paced supported online learning through our online learning platform, complete this flexible course in approximately 30 hours with up to 6 months of access, complemented with drop-in support sessions before your examination.

The AIM Qualifications Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit features six modules with extensive, interactive teaching materials, and self-tests to check your understanding along the way

  1. Introduction to Domestic RetrofitBusting the jargon and introducing key concepts like Fabric First and Whole House Retrofit.
  2. Domestic Retrofit InformationUnderstanding the types of information and documents used in retrofit projects.
  3. Health and SafetyLearning the current legislation, emergency response, and risk management in retrofit.
  4. Domestic Retrofit MaterialsFamiliarising with retrofit materials, quality standards, and safe disposal practices.
  5. Retrofit ProcessesUnderstanding pre-installation requirements, installation details, and common installation problems.
  6. Working PracticesGaining an overview of installation methods for walls, roofs, floors, and more.

  2. Assessment Q&A – The second half will provide an open forum for learners to ask questions, seek clarification, and receive targeted support around their assessments.

This course is open to anyone aged 18 and over with a stable internet connection and access to a desktop or laptop computer. 

It is particularly suited for professionals in housing and the built environment looking to expand their knowledge of retrofit.

The course is assessed through online tests after each module and a final online multiple-choice examination at the end of the course.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit from AIM Qualifications, an Ofqual-regulated awarding body. This certification will enhance your employability and provide you with the foundational knowledge needed to progress in the retrofit sector.
